Ben Hardin, M.A.

PhD Student

Ben is a 4th year PhD student in Psychological and Brain Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. His research seeks to understand the nature of morally valued character traits (e.g., patience, honesty, compassion), addressing questions like: How and when are moral character traits expressed in the context of everyday life? How do these traits influence peoples’ lives and relationships? And how can we best measure individual differences in morality? Ben received his Master’s from Wake Forest University in 2023, and his Bachelor’s from the University of Mississippi in 2021. In his free time, he enjoys listening to and performing music, reading, and playing tabletop games. For more information, please see Ben’s CV.

Qilin Zhang, M.A.

PhD Student

Qilin is a 3rd year PhD student in the WAM Lab at WashU. Qilin received his BS from the University of Minnesota and his MA from Wake Forest. He is interested in using the power of psychology research to add to the prosociality and cooperation in society. His current research focuses on answering 3 general questions, 1) Who are the moral exemplars, how did they become so, and does their morality contribute to their well-being; 2) How to accurately measure moral (e.g. compassion, fairness, and respect) and intellectual traits (e.g. open-mindedness and intellectual charity); 3) When do people decide to change their moral and intellectual characters and how to promote them through interventions? When he’s not tackling these head-scratchers, Qilin likes going on a good hike, playing basketball, hanging out with friends at car meets, or sometimes going to karaoke.
